Forest Friends: A Halloween Series

By Kyle Blackwell, Fearful Photographer

Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourselves for a thrilling journey through the dark and eerie woods with the Forest Friends, where killers and monsters come to life in the shadows. In this article, I will take you behind the scenes of a spine-tingling photoshoot featuring three spooky characters: Little Rabbit, Mr. Devil, and the Pumpkin Queen. Join me as we explore the creative process and delve into the realm of fear and fantasy.

Setting the Stage: The Haunting Location

For this hair-raising photoshoot, we scouted out 2 local forests and nature trails filled with both lush and dead trees. The decaying trees and tangled vines set the perfect stage for our killers to emerge from the shadows. The eerie ambiance of the location coupled with our mobile lighting set would be our canvas for capturing the essence of fear and classic horror art.

The Models: Transforming into Nightmares

Our talented models: Katie, Caden, and Honey embraced the transformation into their monstrous characters with astonishing commitment. Meticulous makeup and costumes specifically designed for each model, was key to bringing these killers to life. The Rabbit's child-like whimsy, the Devil's menacing black claws, and the Pumpkin Queen's royal insanity. A Recipe for spooky.

Capturing the Horror: The Nighttime Photoshoot

As a photographer, my mission was to capture the true terror of stumbling across these monsters in a dark forest. Armed with my trusty Nikon D3400 and an array of rigged up lighting equipment, we ventured into the darkness. The low-light conditions added an element of suspense and drama to each shot. The models' chilling poses, movements, and placements all brought an air of malevolence to each scene, creating images that would haunt the viewer's imaginations.

Wardrobe Choices: Classic, Yet Disturbing

Each killer’s wardrobe was carefully selected to evoke a classic horror feel while adding a contemporary twist. The Rabbit wore a tattered and ripped white dress with white gloves, tights, and black flats. The Devil sported a torn suit and black lace up trousers. The Pumpkin Queen donned a black champagne dress adorned with a white neck ruffle. These choices aimed to pay homage to traditional monsters while injecting a fresh and unsettling energy into their personas.

The Final Reveal: A Nightmare Unleashed

After nights of shooting in truly unsettling forests and meticulous editing, the final images from our horror photoshoot, “Forest Friends”, were tastefully terrifying. The transformation of our models, the haunting setting, and the skillful use of lighting combined to create a visual symphony of fear and dread. The photos and videos succeeded in capturing the essence of these spooky monsters.
